Historical & Contemporary Perspectives
Artists or curators are exploring Indonesian collections in Europe (Leiden, Lisbon, Vienna, Antwerp and Amsterdam). Outcomes will be presented in the exhibition, together with the presentation of the backstage process of the residencies (via interviews, photo, etc.)
On the influence of the colonial period on the arts in Indonesia and Congo at Museum for Central Africa in Tervueren (Oct, 19th 2017) and Leiden (TBC)

Place : Bozar, Brussels
The First Section will look at four artists who have shaped the history of art in Indonesia and were influenced by the colonial occupation in different ways. They were Raden Saleh, Jan Toorop, Emiria Soenasa and Sudjojono.
The Second Part will present new and existing works by a number of artists from Indonesia and elsewhere or whose work has brought them in close contact with the culture and history of the archipelago. They are Mella Jarsma, Roy Villevoye, Antariksa, Agung Kurniawan, Saleh Husein, Octora, FX Harsono, Lifepatch, Leonardsyah Allenda, Tom Nicholson, Wandelien van Oldenborgh.
