Indonesia is honored to become the guest country for the 2017 Europalia International Art Festival, which is held throughout Belgium. Indonesia is also the first Asian Country to become the guest country of the biennial festival. From October 2017 until January 2018 Indonesia will show the art and culture of the country in the cultural performances as well as gastronomic, film and literature exhibitions. The General Coordinator Europalia Indonesia, Makarim Wibisono in an interview with RRI World Service in Jakarta on Tuesday said, being the guest country of the festival held since 1969 is a good opportunity. The Festival could increase the number of European tourists in Indonesia up to more than 1 million people. Makarim explained, in the festival Indonesia will be displayed as an archipelago country with biodiversity, cultural heritage and tolerant society.

“The essence is the ocean of Becoming, how the biggest archipelago country in the world has become an entity that develops through three patterns. We are rich of biodiversity. There will be a maritime exhibition in la Boverie Museum in Liege. In addition, the greatness of Indonesia was inspired by the wisdom our ancestors. So there will be an exhibition of ancestors. This is the time for Indonesia to share with other nations about the diversity of Indonesia. The tolerance and the pluralism can be implemented since 1945,” he said.

Makarim Wibisono further explained, Belgian people are fond of cartoons. Therefore, Indonesia will present Indonesian cartoons ranging from traditional cartoons like Mahabharata and Ramayana, to the modern one. So far, Indonesia has prepared 225 dancers, 54 dance performances and 16 types of dance. Indonesia has also prepared 25 musical groups consisting of 172 musicians and 76 performances. In addition there will be performances of theater and film screenings. Europalia Festival is scheduled to be opened by President Joko Widodo and King Philippe in Brussels on October 10, 2017. Two ministries to develop maritime tourism curriculum

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Ministry of Tourism will develop the curriculum of various educational institutions in order to develop maritime tourism in the country. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said on Tuesday that the ministries will utilize the existence of educational institutions in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The tourism minister hoped that the syllabus would focus on the development of maritime tourism in the country. He also added that the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) could be involved in formulating a program of study in terms of innovation and creativity development. Meanwhile, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti stated that European countries develop through tourism. The minister added that such efforts can also be taken by Indonesia to develop maritime tourism. She also highlighted the unhygienic conditions prevailing in fishing harbors. Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism can also help improve the sanitation of the port. Susi stressed the importance of changing the paradigm and attitudes, as part of the efforts to develop the maritime tourism in Indonesia. She also remarked that domestic and foreign tourists have expressed interest in maritime tourism in the country. (antara)
